Road Safety - Be Bright, Stay in Sight!

Now that the days are darker, we need to be very vigilant about how we go out into the roads in order to be seen in the dark.

In order to really think about this, we had a non uniform day. Everyone had to come in wearing their brightest, most visible outfits. The best dressed from each year group got a prize, including the teachers!

Here are some pictures of the winners.

World Book Day 2023

We love reading at Berger.

For World Book Day 2023, all children spent time making their own props and doing creative activities linked to the joy of reading. We also had a wonderful visit from author Stella Agwor.

KS1 met the author Stella Agwor. Stella kindly agreed to come in, talk to the children and read her wonderful book ‘Just Say It, Ziba’. It is a story about perseverance, resilience and overcoming the challenges of learning how to read. Stella is an author, speaker, grief counsellor and an identity, healing and wholeness mentor. She is also a senior allied medical professional. She lives in Essex with her husband and her two children. The book was inspired by teaching her son to read.

Here are a few photos of the fun we had dressing up and making on the day and of the children enjoying Stella’s visit.

BE BRIGHT, STAY IN SIGHT!

It was such a pleasure seeing all of Berger's children dressed brightly in order to campaign for being visible in the dark and staying safe on the road. Sadly, not all of you could get the prize for best dressed.
The Junior Road Safety team chose one winner from each Year Group.
The winners are:
Nursery: Viola
Reception Zara
Year 1: Teddy
Year 2: Beaux
Year 3: Aise-Sura
Year 4: Kimberly
Year 5: Zara
Year 6: Alagie
Teachers: Morgan

Well done everyone! Thank you for your engagement, and STAY SAFE!

World Book Day

Berger children celebrated World Book Day in school and remotely with some exciting costumes. They made bookmarks, invented characters and wrote book reviews.

Year 6 used emojis to write the titles of some of their favourite stories and books. Can you guess which ones they are? Hover over the pictures for the answers.

Be Bright, Stay in Sight 2020-2021

We started Autumn with a big Road Safety campaign called BE BRIGHT, STAY IN SIGHT. The purpose of it was to help children think about how they can stay safe on our roads during the long inter darkness.

We all came to school wearing our brightest clothes. The incentive was a prize handed out to the best dressed out of each key stage.

Have a peek at the winners and browse the posters our children came up with in order to create enthusiasm around school and think further about being safe on the roads.

Be Bright, Stay in Sight!

As part of our PSHE curriculum, we have been reflecting on Road Safety.

In order to make this more engaging and a better learning experience for the children we have created a student led team, called : Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO).

Now that the clocks have gone back and winters wheels are grinding their way to us with more darkness hours, we need to be more aware of the things we can do to stay safe on the road. One of those things is making sure we dress in colours that allow us to be spotted on the road with ease.

We launched a whole school campaign called: Be Bright, Stay in Sight. We all came dressed in bright colours and the best dressed in each key stage got awards! Even a staff member!

These picture show you a little bit of how it went.

Berger Together

As part of our continued commitment to the 2010 Equalities Act, we looked at the book ‘Julian is a Mermaid’ and came up with images and slogans that communicated our feelings about celebrating diversity.

Tiana in Copper Beech came up with a wonderful new slogan - Celebrating who we are - and all of the children created some lovely images which will be used in a display and painted as a mural.
