As our wow day for the History of Flight topic, we made hot air balloons using the papier mache technique. We loved being creatives and learning new art techniques whilst immersing ourselves in our new topic. Here are some examples of the outcomes! We made the basket whilst learning about 3D shapes in maths. We used a net to make a cube and cut out one of its sides! Then we attached it with string
We learnt about how flying changes the way people live.
We discussed how Amelia Earhart was a female pioneer and role model for future generations of women.
We also learnt how perseverance leads to greatness with the story of the Montgolfier and Wright brothers.
To finish up our topic on Explorers, we payed the Museum of London Docklands a worthwhile visit.
We discovered how sailors used to live and bring goods in and out of London. This was great to link up with Christopher Columbus.
We smelled spices and played with their resources. Its was so much fun!
As an end of topic project, we decided to create a book that would share some of the facts we have been learning. This is the result!
In order to get deeper into our topic, we visited the museum of childhood in Bethenal Green. In there we were able to really see the difference between toys and when they were made. We were also fortunate enough to enjoy a Punch and Judy show. The children LOVED IT!
We invited parents into our class in order to meet the teachers and get to see how things happen. The children had a fab time showing their people around and being hands on with their activities!
Hello everyone,
This week we are having a great time going through our WOW Week, in which we dive deep into our Topic.
BREAKING NEWS!
A TIME TRAVELER HAS TAKEN ALL OF OUT TOYS!!! But fear not… he has left us old toys as clues to see what eras he has visited.
We believe that if we hold on to his toys, and look after them, and learn from them, he will bring us our toys back soon!
Stay tuned for updates.
