Writing
At Berger, we believe that writing is an essential skill that will benefit our students throughout their lives, as it is an important tool for individual expression and wider communication. We believe that writing as a subject allows children to clearly demonstrate their understanding of their learning in other subject areas and is therefore brilliant in cross-curricular, creative learning. While there is a focus on developing writing that follows grammatical structures, there is also a focus on the way we can use language creatively to find deeper meaning in both our learning and our emotional and social development.
Throughout their time at Berger, our students will be exposed to a wide variety of rich and dynamic texts that will help them to blossom into budding writers. They are encouraged to discuss their language choices and work collaboratively to support each other in the writing process. We link our writing to its purpose, enabling them to consider their target audience and change the tone accordingly. This will ensure that children clearly understand the importance of writing and its place in the wider world. The primary objective of our writing curriculum is to allow children to find and develop, and be able to effectively communicate, their own voice and opinions.
