Spring 1 - Museum of Docklands visit

We went to the museum of Docklands to explore what they had on offer and explore the local area of Canary Wharf. We lots of fun finding different things that they had at the museum and playing in their soft play area.

Spring 1 - Forest school

We enjoyed having a special forest school session in our nature garden. We made a fire, sang songs and had hot chocolate and biscuits as a treat!

Spring 1 - Literacy

We have been doing lots of reading in DSR and using our phonics knowledge and skills to write lots of different forms of writing. We read stories by famous authors such as Julia Donaldson, Michael Rosen, Oliver Jeffers and Tola Okugwu.

Spring 1 - Maths

We have had a big focus on numerical patterns - shape, space and measures. We have been learning lots of different vocabularies to describe the properties of shapes, measurements and capacity of things. We learned about time and clocks, and how to tell time to the hour and what we do at different times of the day and night

Sprin 1 - Creative activities!

There are lots of creative minds in Elm class. The children have been using a range of different materials and media to create characters from stories that we have been reading in class as well as create their own story characters.

Autumn 2 - Transport trip

We went on a transport trip to learn about the different types of transport that we have available to us in London. We travelled on the Overground, the DLR, the Underground train and on the cable cars.

Autumn 2 - Maths

We have been learning about patterns, positional language and the names and properties of 2D shapes. We have also been learning to solve simple number problems.

Autumn 2 - WOW day

Our topic this half term is ‘Transport’. For our ‘WOW’ day, we explored different types of transport and discussed how transport helps us and how transport can take us from one place to another place and it make our journeys quicker.

Autumn 1 - WOW day

Our topic this term was - Now and then. For this topic, we learnt about ourselves and have lots of discussions about how we have changed since being born, what we could not do as a little baby but can now do as 4 and 5 year old children, what kind of things we liked and played with when we were younger compared to now. We looked at baby photos of us, explored baby objects, role played and acted like we were babies and we tried eating baby food to see if we still liked it and would still eat it.

Autumn 1 - Literacy and phonics

In literacy and phonics this half term, we have been learning to pronounce and identify the sound that each letter of the alphabet makes. We have also been learning the name of each of the letter and practising how to write them. We have been focusing on our pencil grip and pencil control to improve our letter formation. We have also been practising to write of name.

Autumn 1 - Maths

We have been focusing on numbers this half term. We have been busy doing lots of counting; subitising, matching numeral and quantity, composing and decomposing numbers, comparing different amounts and writing numerals.

Summer 1 - Habitats topic WOW day

For our WOW day, we collected natural materials from our playground and nature garden. We then then used the materials that we had collected to make collages. We also went into the nature garden to explore and find minibeasts, as well as, listening out for all of the different natural sounds we could hear.

Summer 1 - Literacy

We have been working really hard to become more independent with our reading and writing this half term. We have been using Fred talk to decode words that were unfamiliar to us and used our writing rules to write sentences.

Summer 1 - Maths

This half term, we have been learning about number bonds of 10, and we have used unifix cubes and numicons to find different ways of composing and decomposing number 10. We have also learned about routes and follow directions to our local Co-Op. Additionally, we learned about the properties of 3D shapes and doubling.
