Autumn 1 - Forest school
Look at all the fun and exciting things we have been doing at forest school!
Our topic this term was - Now and then. For this topic, we learnt about ourselves and have lots of discussions about how we have changed since being born, what we could not do as a little baby but can now do as 4 and 5 year old children, what kind of things we liked and played with when we were younger compared to now. We looked at baby photos of us, explored baby objects, role played and acted like we were babies and we tried eating baby food to see if we still liked it and would still eat it.
In literacy and phonics this half term, we have been learning to pronounce and identify the sound that each letter of the alphabet makes. We have also been learning the name of each of the letter and practising how to write them. We have been focusing on our pencil grip and pencil control to improve our letter formation. We have also been practising to write of name.
For our WOW day, we collected natural materials from our playground and nature garden. We then then used the materials that we had collected to make collages. We also went into the nature garden to explore and find minibeasts, as well as, listening out for all of the different natural sounds we could hear.
This half term, we have been learning about number bonds of 10, and we have used unifix cubes and numicons to find different ways of composing and decomposing number 10. We have also learned about routes and follow directions to our local Co-Op. Additionally, we learned about the properties of 3D shapes and doubling.
This half term, we have been learning about the name of the different parts of a plant, what plants need to grow and how to plant seeds. We also learnt about Ramadan, how Muslims around the world pray and even tasted dates as it is usually one of the first thing that is eaten when it is time to break your fast.
Our topic this half term was Australia. We located Australia on the map, drew pictures of Australian aboriginal people, created artwork using Australian dot patterns, used dot patterns to make numerals, learnt to dance like aboriginal Australians, as well as reading books about lots of different types of Australian animals.
We have had a big focus on numbers this half term. We have been learning to get super confident at ordering numerals, forming the numerals correctly, adding and taking away using concrete objects, our fingers and on a number line. We used Australian dot patterns to form numerals and matching numerals to dot patters.
For our transport trip we went to the O2 arena. We used lots of different modes of transport to get there. We used the Overground, the Underground, the DLR and the cable cars. It was such a wonderful experience as we got to explore lots of different modes of transport that we have available in London.
