Forest school

We had a great learning experience building shelters in forest school.

Wow day

We had a wonderful start to Year Two and a fantastic Wow day. We learnt about the Great Fire of London and built and decorated Tudor houses. We also did some research about the fire.

No pens Wednesday

There was no writing done in school today because it’s ‘No Pens Day’. Children had a great deal of fun. In literacy, children acted out Mary Seacole’s life. In maths, they explored shape and thought about properties of 2D shapes, such as how many sides and vertices, and straight and curved sides. In art, children used shape to create pieces of art using paint, print and pastels, All in all; a very fun day!

Florence Day

As part of our History topic Florence Nightingale came to visit! Poplar class had a great morning learning all about Florence’s life and what she did. Florence was lucky she was wealthy and even though she was a girl her father wanted her to be educated. We travelled with Florence to Scutari hospital and she trained us in how to be super nurses.

Spring 1

This term Poplar class have learned about plants in science and observed runner beans germinating. In topic the children have thought about the different types of transport in London and how this has changed in the last one hundred years. They have also done observational drawings about different modes of transport. In teams children have designed, created and evaluated models of different types of transport using axles and wheels in DT.

End of very busy term.

Poplar Class has been doing lots of art, trips and performances. The Christmas performance and party was the highlight of the Autumn term.

15th November: A visit from Florence

Poplar class had a special visitor. Florence talked about her life, the challenges she faced and the changes she made to nursing practice. Children pretended to be Queen Victoria, her family, her nurses and soldiers. It was great fun!

30th October: Florence Nightingale WOW day

Poplar class learnt about Florence Nightingale in many creative ways. Children acted out Florence’s life, made lanterns and peg dolls of Florence.

Reading for pleasure

At Berger we understand that reading is a key part of learning, and that reading for pleasure is critical in developing good reading habits and skills. Children are given many opportunities for reading.

26th September: Monument trip

Poplar class braved the rain and went to visit Pudding Lane where the Great Fire of London started. They also went up 311 steps to the top of the Monument. Learning outside of the classroom is fun!
