Morals and consequences
In RE, we talked how we know what is right and what is wrong. We had examples of different scenarios and wrote down what we thought the consequence for that action should be. We had to do a lot of thinking!
Great Fire of Berger…
We burned our Tudor Houses to see how quickly the fire spread between the terraced houses that were very close together. We were able to see how flammable the materials we used were and saw that gaps in the houses did help slow the fire down. It was a very exciting experience!
Building Tudor Houses
We built our own Tudor Houses. We painted the houses and prepared them for the Great Fire of Berger…
Game Testing
Our Computing unit this term gave us lots of opportunities to test different games. We predicted the programs and algorithms used to create different games. We also suggested improvements to the games we tested.
Practical Maths
This term we enjoyed lots of practical maths. Making number stories, using concrete resources to support our learning of number and addition.
Monument Trip
We visited Monument and Pudding Lane to see where the Great Fire of London started. We drew some of the landmarks in the area and some of us created maps of the area.
Game Creators
In Computing, we had a go at creating our own Scratch Jr games. We had lots of fun!
Drama Workshop - Great Fire of London
We took part in a fantastic drama workshop to re enact the events of the Great Fire of London as different people in society. We took on the role of Dukes, Duchesses, Merchants, Priests and Rat Catchers. We thought about the losses of the different classes in society.
Materials
We learned lots about different materials as part of our Science topic; Materials. We described the properties, we sorted objects into different groups and discussed the suitability of different materials for different objects.
Building Mosques
We completed a Design & Technology project with an RE link. As part of our Religious Education topic; Islam, we learned about the importance of mosques. We then built 3D models of a mosque to show the different features.
Forest School
In Forest School we were able to build shelters. We had to think carefully about the equipment and material we used to build strong shelters. We then enjoyed hot chocolate under our shelters!
Music Workshop
Willow class created wrote a song about Mary Seacole’s journey as a nurse and created a soundscape using a variety of instruments. We had lots of fun making music in this workshop!
Scratch Jr
In Computing, we created Space Invader games. We chose our sprites, created our backgrounds, explored adding audio and using different blocks and commands.
Herbal Medicine
In Literacy, we made herbal medicine inspired by Mary Seacole. We then wrote our own instructions to make herbal medicine. We used lots of natural ingredients and had a lot of fun!
Carnivore, Herbivore or Omnivore?
In Science, we investigated ‘animal poo’ to suggest the diet of the animal. We matched pictures of animals and cards labelled; carnivore, herbivore and omnivore to the different poo types. We looked for clues such as bones, beans, seeds and bugs in the poo using magnifying glasses and tweezers.
Art Workshop
Year 2 took part in an exciting Art workshop where they worked collaboratively to produce a fantastic collage of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. We collected lots of paper to match different skin tones, features such as the eyes and lips of our two famous nurses, finally producing a huge collage of their portraits put together.
Algorithms…
We had a great lesson in Computing, where we discussed what algorithms are and the importance of giving simple, clear instructions. We wrote our own algorithms and our partners had a go at drawing ‘crazy characters’ by following the algorithms we wrote.
Life Cycles
In our Art lesson, we created watercolour pencils to create the life cycle of a butterfly and the life cycle of a frog.
We are Animators!
In Computing, we created animations where we sequenced the key life events of Florence Nightingale in chronological order. We used different tools to draw and type in text on Purple Mash (2Animate) about Florence Nightingale.
Paul Klee
Willow class created paintings of Florence Nightingale, inspired by the famous artist Paul Klee. We used hot and cold colours and explored the use of different shapes.
